DIGITAL MEDIA

After setting up a blog on blogger.com, we experimented with settings and html. This included colours, fonts, sizes, background alignments, opacity and text alignment. We posted our first blog, a photo and a video from youtube.
The other workshops were editing the settings of our blog and adding entries to it

SOUND

After learning about John Cage's silence piece '4:33', we were put into groups to come up with a presentation with this as inspiration. The purpose was to appreciate the time of complete silence. If you cut off all sounds you listen to internal sound for example blood and heartbeat.
Our group stood behind the curtain for 4 mins 33 seconds then left the room once the time was up.

Our second workshop was to compose a score using symbols to represent sounds around us like onomatopoeia. Gemma, Alan and myself went to a coffee shop. Around me I heard footsteps, cups on tables, teaspoons clanging, people talking. I drew symbols with lines, dashes and frequencies. We then took written audio from our score and we all repeated the phrase over and over again with a "conductor" controlling who spoke and how loud or quiet.

The final workshop was to record sounds on a marantz and play them through speakers which were situated around the room. This came with some interesting results and it echoed and sounded eerie. I found I focused on all of the sounds then each individual speaker.
